Stories contain characters changing in different ways.  A majority of the time a character has his/hers personality alter into another personality through events that they have experienced.  In the Metamorphosis Gregor Samsa went through an emotional and physical change.  Besides becoming a bug, some of his desires came true.  Like he was able to sleep late and he doesn’t have to go to his job.  Many other stories relate to the Metamorphosis in which a character changes either physically, emotionally or both.

            One ogre realized, in Shrek, that she was happier and more connected to her husband as an ogre than as a human.  Fiona wanted to be fall in love as fast as possible so she could always be human not an ogre at night.  She thought if making believe to love the prince will help her with her curse.  In the end after spending time with Shrek she realized she was happier with the ogre and in the married him.  Though she fell in love she didn’t break the curse, and even turned into an ogre herself.   Fiona and Shrek lived happily ever after even though Fiona was still a green fairytale creature.

            Stories aren’t the only works of art which contain developing characters.  Songs, too, contain lyrics which show that the character wants some kind of change.  In the Little Mermaid song, Part of Your World, Ariel reveals her desire for legs.  Her longing for legs seemed impossible to get because she had fins. 

            Works of art reveal true wants of people or things, and how they have to transform to receive what they want.  In the metamorphosis Gregor became a bug because he was like a bug as a human, always doing what people say.  It wasn’t until he actually turned into an insect of some sort that some of his wishes came true.
